Roll-Up Stations - Thermal and EnergyGuard

Roll-Up Station

While a thermal cover is relatively light and easy to use on smaller pools, it is recommended that a Rollup Station be used in pools exceeding 7m in length. The Rollup Station will assist in the removal of the cover from the water as well as the neat and safe storage of the blanket once removed from the pool.

For use with a Rollup Station, all thermal covers will require both an attachment kit (which secures the cover to the roller of the Rollup Station) and a leading edge kit which facilitates the closing of the cover across the pool. A unique reinforcing material is added to both ends of the cover to allow a quality connection to attachment kit and leading edge of the cover.

The Rollup Station is a movable item so it can be stored out of sight or easily moved out of the way when the pool is in use.

The Rollup Station together with all the accessories provides the quality finish to a thermal cover. This provides an aesthetic quality appreciated by  those who want excellent finishes.

PowerPlastics or an approved dealer will be required to install the Rollup Station.

Pool decking or paving must be such that the Rollup Station can be adequately secured.

PowerDome

How it works

PowerDomePowerDome is fully portable and easy to move. Supported by a lightweight frame, one side folds into the other in a concertina-type movement. On the clear ‘windows’, strapping allows the windows and openings to be neatly rolled up and fastened in place, no zips required. PowerDome does not need to be secured to the pool’s coping or Jacuzzi surrounds however, if there are children in the home, we do recommend securing your PowerDome.

Benefits

  • Increase water temperatures

During the day, PowerDome creates a barrier between the outside air and the water. As the heat rises off the water, it is trapped within the PowerDome, sealed in the cocoon-like area over the pool or Jacuzzi. With no outlet, this natural energy is transferred to the water and raises its temperature, also effectively preventing the cooling effects of natural elements such as wind and rain. At night, optimal heat retention can be achieved by adding a thermal cover such as our EnergyGuard or Thermal Imported covers, which will reduce overnight temperature losses by 90%. The two covers combined will ensure your pool or Jacuzzi retains a consistent and comfortable water temperature without heat pumps.

Please note that because the PowerDome increases the ambient temperature within the dome quite significantly, one can expect a slightly higher level of water evaporation. Again, we recommend a thermal blanket also placed on the water’s surface while the pool or Jacuzzi is not in use.

  • Upkeep and reduced operational costs

Where fitted over heated pools and Jacuzzis, PowerDome allows for the heat pump’s settings to be reduced, which translates into significant household savings. PowerDome also prevents leaves and debris collecting in the water, saving time and money spent on both maintenance and filtration. It also makes it easier to maintain the right chemical balance for optimal water hygiene. Furthermore, input can be reduced given that the evaporation of chlorine is prevented.

NB: PowerDome and child drowning prevention
PowerDome can be secured to the pool’s coping or Jacuzzi’s surrounds in such a way that it adds a barrier element of child safety. That said, PowerDome has not been assessed in conjunction with South Africa’s pending pool safety legislation. As such, PowerPlastics Pool Covers does not promote PowerDome as a stand-alone safety solution or preventative measure in respect of child drowning. Children must still be supervised at all times.
The PowerPlastics Pool Covers Solid Safety Cover has been approved under the legislation and is therefore the recommended cover for child safety.

Manual Winder – Safety Cover

The safety cover may sometimes require the use of a winder mechanism to deploy and remove the cover if the pool is large and/or extremely wide. The manual winder is constructed from aluminium and is geared to make it very easy and simple to operate. The winder weighs 2 kilograms and is 1.3 metres in length and can be secured into a quality PVC cover when not required.

Benefits

The manual winder allows 1 person to deploy and remove the safety cover with no effort and is a detachable and portable item, allowing it to be stored out of sight while not in use.

Reinforcing

Reinforcing

Reinforcing provides a quality finish on the leading edge and attachment kit and is an important accessory that protects the cover when using a rollup station. It improves its durability and prevents abrasive damage where the cover is pulled or dragged over paving on removal.

Wind Protection

Under most circumstances no wind protection is required but some pools are in wind channels and require protection. If severe winds are forecast, over 35k per hour we recommend removing the cover. Wind protection devices are designed to ensure that the wind does not lift the cover.

We offer two excellent wind protection solutions:

  1. Flood tubes:
Hollow PVC pipes are incorporated into a sleeve/pocket running across the width of the pool. The flood tube fills with pool water and the resulting weight diminishes any movement caused by wind. On removal of the cover, the flood tubes quickly drain and the cover removal process is then fast and effortless.
  2. Wind Skirt:
A weighted 20cm skirt, attached to the sides of the cover, hangs downwards into the water. This maintains the cover's contact with the water and prevents lifting by wind. The fabric simply rolls up with the cover after use.

Protective Cover

It is important to correctly care for and store your pool covers in a sheath when not in use. This reduces weathering and therefore significantly extends a cover's lifespan.

Our Protective Cover provides safe storage of thermal covers that are not on a rollup station, protecting the thermal material from the effects of direct sunlight.

We have a range of protective 550gsm PVC covers for all our products, including the Manual Winder.
